All Dane Gale ever wanted was to be a successful writer.  After a few sessions with his new friends Rose and Sherry at a romance book club, well, the more romances they read, the more they’re convinced they can do better.  And do they ever!  They join their creative forces to become “Pamela Clarice,” self-published romance novelist.  When they look for a cover model for their first book, Dane sees the photos that will change his life.

Paul Musegetes is the world’s most popular romance cover model, and the most secretive.  Dane soon finds himself obsessed with this supernaturally handsome man, and when he meets Paul at the Romance Writers’ Ball on the Summer Solstice, he and Paul connect for one night of passion…

After that night, Dane’s a writing machine.  He can’t stop writing romances, and every story he touches turns to gold.  But he also finds that he can’t write anything but romances. And soon he’s spending every waking moment of every day writing another after another…

Then Dane finds out that this Midas touch has a heavy price.  After the next Summer Solstice, he’ll never write again.  Not a romance, not a serious novel.  Nothing.  Not even a grocery list.  And that leaves him with only one option – find Paul, and get him to break the curse.  But before he can do that, he’ll have to track down Paul’s equally mysterious photographer, Jackson da Vinci…

Excerpt:

It wasn’t hard to find Paul again.  And to find the “other images with this model” link.  And click.  And click.  And blow up my browser window to 200%, so that when I zoomed the photos, his face, then his eyes, filled my screen.

And what surprised me was that there were not only so many images of him, but that he could be so many different men in so many different pictures, different settings – he was the tender lover with the rose, the snarling Viking, the cool guy in a band, the Miami Beach tool, the shifter/werewolf, the business man, the college kid, the gym rat, the outdoorsman, the poet, the drill sergeant, the soccer player, the swimmer…  As I looked at each picture, I was totally convinced that I was looking at the real man, that that was who he really was…until I looked at the next.

And yet, always, he was clearly recognizably himself – Paul.  It was those eyes, reminding you that he was in there, somewhere, behind the image, and you’d never know which one he really was, he was all of them, he was whoever you wanted him to be…

Author Bio:

M/M Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys a good saucy tale – after all, who doesn’t? Since she loves several genres, you may find your heroes in a contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi setting. One of her passions is bringing people’s fantasies to life on the page, because life is too short for even one boring moment. Her stories are volcanic in heat, deep in emotion, and sprinkled with doses of humor.

When not indulging in her obsession for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. The Pacific Northwest is the ideal spot to enjoy both hiking and beachcombing. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She now resides on the northern coast of Oregon, where the constant rain and fog remind her of visits to family in England and Scotland when she was a child.

She is currently working on the Gin & Jazz series about the glitz and glamour of 1920’s Hollywood and additional installments of the Uniform Encounters series, with a new series about those luscious men in uniform coming out later this year.

Police officer Zach and Fire Marshal Daryl would be perfect together—if they would ever quit fighting long enough to find out. A devastating fire and the secret behind it almost keeps them from getting what they really need—each other.

Mesa police officer Zach is a fun-loving guy. Now that he’s hit the big three-oh, he’s looking to stop the hook-up train and find someone he can get serious about. When a mutual friend suggests Fire Marshal Daryl, Zach assumes he must be joking. The surly marshal has given cranky a new meaning. It’s unfortunate, though, since he is one fine-looking man.

Daryl has sworn off relationships ever since he caught his ex-partner cheating. He’s always taken everything in life seriously—from jobs to relationships—and is afraid he might be alone in that regard. Certain he can’t risk love again, he panics when he sees his secret crush Zach approaching him at a police versus firemen softball game. He’s nervous, as he is socially challenged with a tendency to blurt out the wrong things. It gets worse when he realises their shared buddy gave Zach a push. He assumes that Zach is only talking to him out of pity.

Zach has been pissed off at Daryl ever since they got into a verbal sparring match at the park. Yet, when Daryl comes to his aid during an explosive fire, Zach wonders what secrets might be hidden beneath the layers Daryl has built to protect himself from the world—and love. A night of passion turns into the possibility of something more as they struggle to find their way to one another. But all of that is threatened when there is a devastating fire that causes many people to lose their lives. As they work together to uncover the truth, someone thinks they’ve asked too many questions—and plans to stop them before they can ask any more.

Excerpt:

Arriving at the picnic table, he had a brief moment of awkwardness where he felt he had no idea how to start a conversation. Typically, he was a laid-back, social kind of guy, so it unnerved him a bit. He cleared his throat. Daryl turned his head slowly, regarded Zach then turned back to the game, a can of pop in his hand.

“This cake any good?”

Cake. That’s brilliant.

Daryl shrugged, not even bothering to look his way. He took a swig of his soda.

“So that means what exactly? It was okay? You’ve had better? You don’t give a shit?”

Daryl whipped his head around, angling his body towards Zach.

“The last one.”

A snort of laughter burst out of Zach. His reaction seemed to garner some interest from Cranky Pants. Daryl looked him up and down so quickly that if Zach hadn’t been paying such good attention, he would have missed it. Daryl also had the slightest curl at the corner of one side of his mouth.

That’s probably a huge grin in Daryl’s book.

“Yeah. I guess this whole birthday thing caught you off guard, huh?”

“I don’t get caught off guard.”

Zach resisted the urge to frown. And possibly throw cake at him.

“So you showed up anyway to prove to everyone that you aren’t frightened of birthday celebrations?”

Daryl faced Zach. He made a sound that Zach could almost interpret as a chuckle. Either that or he was in pain—it was hard to say.

“Zach, right?”

“Yeah. Daryl, right?”

“Well, we know each other’s names. Why aren’t you playing today?”

“Oh, I fucked up my shoulder last week chasing a suspect. Asshole ran off with the cuffs on, and when I tackled him I hit the ground the wrong way. It’ll be all right. I just need to take it easy for a couple weeks.”

“Too bad. You’ve got the best pitching arm between the two teams.” Daryl kept his gaze trained on Zach.

Not sure. Could be flirting.

“I’m resilient. I’ll be throwing balls again in no time.” Zach had to work extra hard to keep a straight face.

Daryl tipped his soda back and finished it off, while continuing to stare at Zach. He set the can down on the table, then crossed his arms in front of him.

“Good to hear.” He glanced in the direction of Tom and Eric. “But I doubt you came all the way over here to ask me about cake.

The men. Ay-ay-ay.

When I realized it was the first anniversary of the release of my book, Honor C, I was amazed at how quickly the time had passed. It seemed like just yesterday my babies—Honor Castillo and Jorge Villagomez—were published. And, hey, the time has flown since the book was released.

But in real time—counting how many times the story was written, scrapped, re-written, scrapped again—I scratch my head and wonder how the book was ever finished.

One thing was always the same, though, and stayed faithfully consistent through every rewrite of the story.. The character of Honor.

Okay, so laugh, go ahead. Laugh. But the character of Honor Castillo has always been based on my dream man, my crush, the Latino man of my dreams—Hispanic actor Eduardo Yanez. Oh, the Hispanic telenovellas I’ve watched, just to see him. Dazzling smile, jet black curls, the most beautiful, friendly eyes. Big guy. Virile, swarthy, dripping with masculinity. Yet so gentle and humorous, boyish, romantic.

Honor (Eduardo Yanez)

Eduardo in Water Two

There was never a doubt that the actor was going to be a character in one of my stories. In fact, it was a struggle not to base all characters on him, I love his persona that much.

And, oddly, in every rendition of the story Honor C, every rewrite, his character stayed the same. I tried different lovers on for size for him. None of them worked. And then, finally, the muse found the love interest for him.

And that lover was catty, bitchy, heart of gold, prissy Jorge Villagomez. And his character was based on a male fashion model, Ruben Cortada.

Jorge (Ruben Cortada)

Jorge Two

But get this. Jorge had been one of those displaced characters, too. What most don’t know is that Jorge’s shows up as a passing flame for Candelario Gonzalez in my first novella, Candy G. He was a hairdresser. He lost out to the character Carlos.

Then Jorge surfaced again in one of the Honor C attempts. Oddly, though, he was a dance instructor and a former lover of Honor Castillo, but not the love interest for the novella. Just another supporting character, a mentor for the fellow who was Honor’s lover.

And every time I included Jorge in a scene, I loved him more and more. He quickly became one of my favorite characters—ever.

But…but…you know how it goes. Kind of a chess game of characterization. Move those babies all over the place until—who knew?—two characters who weren’t planned as lovers turn to be…lovers.

Honor Castillo is, in the book, a big guy. He was a big child. And what so many do not know is that his character, his personality, his heart, his soul, were based on one of my beloved friends, a big gentle bear—Tom Webb. The book did, in fact, honor Tom in the dedications, acknowledging that my friend, McTom is Honor Castillo.

So, you see, Honor and Jorge were a long time coming. Like dancers switching partners at a square dance, they were matched and re-matched. And that makes their birth, in some ways, seem centuries ago.

But they finally made it to a finished product. They finally pushed their ways out of all the revisions and jumbles scenarios and became my babies, two of my most beloved creations. Names that now seem as though they always belonged together.

 Excerpt :

JORGE stirred beside me, dragging me from my reverie of schoolyards, lunches, and bullies and back to the present.

Tonight was our last chance to make love. I had no words, I just wanted to look at him, memorize him. I reached to paint the line of his full bottom lip with my thumb and shivered at the sigh it evoked from him, the tiny whimper as he wriggled to face me.

He twirled a finger in the curls at my nape. “Remember Shirley Setzer?”

I turned on my side to take in the sight of Jorge’s nude body—skinny, girly, driving-me-out-of-my-mind sexy—stretched out beside me.

The limited light transformed his thin form into smooth, elegant planes with a tantalizing thatch of shadow between his legs.

“How weird. I was just thinking about her.” I lifted onto my elbow.

His hand dropped to his chest. “The day we met.”

I snorted. “We didn’t meet that day. You never even spoke to me.”

“Didn’t I?”

“Hell, no.”

“But—”

“Ah, no. You pranced your stuck-up little ass back to the building, never said two words to me.”

Lifting his hand, he pretended to slap me. “I was not stuck up.”

I said nothing, just lifted an eyebrow that I was sure he couldn’t really see in the dark.

“I didn’t mean to be, Honor. I guess I was afraid to talk to you. None of the other kids had anything to do with me. Figured you wouldn’t either.”

“But you charged into Shirley. You sure weren’t shy then.”

“I just reacted.”

“I’ll never forget. You knocked the shit out of ol’ Shirley and never even said anything to me. You just strutted away, all prissy-assed. Do you know what I thought?”

“What?”

“I thought you were irritated at me, that you thought I should have defended myself. That you thought I was weak.”

“Oh, querido,” he murmured and cupped his warm palm to my cheek. “I was the weak one, to give in to her taunts. You were the strong one. And I think I loved you that day. Even that young, I think I loved you.”

“Me? Gordo? Cerdo Castillo?”

With a grunt, Jorge flopped onto his back. “Stop it, damn you.”

“Sorry,” I chuckled. It riled him so for me to put myself down about my size.

He shifted toward me once more, wormed nearer. “Fuck, fuck, fuck. I’d see you smile at somebody in the halls and I’d nearly cry like a baby, wanting so bad to get one of your killer smiles aimed at me. Holy shit, I had the biggest girly crush on you.”

“Could have fooled me.”

“Your smile, Honor.” He pressed a trembling finger to my lips. “Your smile.”

“Once you did speak to me, I don’t think my smile showed itself for anybody but you again.”

“Bullshit.” This time he did slap me. Lightly, but still a slap to my cheek. “She sure as hell sees it.”

“Ay-ay.” I coaxed the head of my cock against his crotch. “We agreed not to bring that up tonight.”

“Please don’t do this.” He whispered the words onto my shoulder. His voice, so husky, a sultry purr—all Lauren Bacall, just put your lips together and blow—hadn’t lost its power to make me grovel at his feet in lust.

“Want me to stop?” I teased and turned him in my arms.

“Make jokes.” Burrowing deeper into my embrace, he growled and circled his palm over the hair on my chest. “Becky,” he spat. “I can’t even say her name without choking on it.”

I held him tighter but said nothing. What more was there to say? We’d been arguing all night, ever since I’d broken the news to him that I’d gotten serious with Rebecca Sanchez, the dazzling woman I’d met a few months back.

We can still fuck, can’t we? Jorge had contended. Why does she have to change anything?

Because once my relationship with Becky seemed to be heading on a serious route, I couldn’t cheat on her. I just couldn’t. The decision hadn’t come easily, but I’d made it, and I knew it was good.

The message that made me cry…

Pitch 400x600Final

A few months ago I got a message from ‘Michael’ about Pitch. I had gotten a few before this, mostly saying they enjoyed the story. Michael’s was different, though. His letter made me proud of something I had accomplished. In all honesty, the letter made me cry (a good cry, don’t get me wrong). With his permission, I’m sharing the letter with you.

Please suspend your “royal status” as the guru of the YA gay novelists for a moment. (I say that in a complimentary way). I hope you read this as if it was your first of many words of praise. My words are genuine and are full of praise.

I’m writing to thank you for the joy I’ve had in reading your book “Pitch”. I guess you could say I’m as closeted as you can get and living in a small (and small minded) Mississippi town. Growing up as an army brat, I’ve lived in many places. Unfortunately, these moves were frequent. Stationed at one place for a year or so, and then moving on to the next. I’ve met many friends but never was able to form a bond with others that most children naturally have in their adolescent and young adult lives. ( Sounds just like Jax). As timing would have it, my high school graduation in 1985 was immediately followed by my dad’s army retirement and a final trip home the next week to Mississippi. Not the best place to come out to the world that you are gay. So I never did. I managed to have a relationship so similar to that of Taylor and Jackson in “Pitch” that I had to write to you (I know you get tired of hearing the same thing from all your fans). I was “Taylor Andrews” without exception and “Jackson Kern” was a neighborhood boy from my home town and “coincidentally” ended up as my roommate my freshman year in college. A secret love started and the rest is history. (sounds like a book to me doesn’t it?). Sadly, my “Jax” died tragically one year later from a head on collision. A driver of an 18 wheeler feel asleep at the wheel. Thankfully, he died instantly. So you can imagine how pleased I was to relive that part of my life through your great work in “Pitch”. I’m truly a new and loyal fan.

So now of course, I am anxiously awaiting to read the follow up “Wet Paint”. When will it be available and will it be available for Kindle? Is it possible to purchase and autographed copy of “Pitch”? I’m not your typical designated YA reader but I’m definitely a big fan. After reading your first book I have to keep you living in the lifestyle you’re accustomed so I can’t wait to purchased ”Wet Paint”. I fell in love with Jax, Taylor and Benny. I didn’t want Jax and Taylor’s love to EVER end. However, I was in love with Benny so much I wanted Taylor to have an epiphany moment and fall for Benny also. ( I know I can’t have it both ways but still….but what a problem to have. right?). I’m sure I’m not the only one who fell in love with Benny. It’s gonna be hard to see him with Addy and not Taylor. But, who wouldn’t love Addy …I can definitely see Benny and Addy together now that you want let Benny pine over his best friend. If I had my way I would of had Benny come out to Taylor and profess his love for him….then they have a attempt at something sexual…… but come to the conclusion they are meant to be best friend forever and don’t want to jeopardize the love they already have for each other.( I could live with that maybe…) See….you have me believing these characters are my friends. That’s great writing! Seriously though will your book has given me the courage to begin living life without reservation. I’m tired of hiding in that “big ass closet”. Although I’m not out yet, I know it’s slowly coming to fruition and I owe that to you. I refuse to live the rest of my life for others and never experience what love can bring. (Sounds sappy huh? Sorry). Thanks again for your book Will. If ever you are in Mississippi (LOL………) I’d love to give you the “grand tour” of Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Better yet, I’d love to take you to an alumni tail-gate party while attending an Ole Miss Football game. There’s nothing like it. HOTTY TODDY!

I hope you know how much your gift of writing has touched us all and how grateful we are for having read them.

My best wishes for your continued success,

Michael

So it’s been a year…

500 Miles by MLR Press. Click to buy your copy.

June 6th, 2013 ‘500 Miles’ came out. It was my first release and I was so freaking nervous about it. Still, people embraced Mark and Jase. I couldn’t believe how well it did and you wouldn’t believe how humbled I was by it. That was the beginning of the greatest year of my life.

I’m not even sure I’ll hit everything that happened over the year, but I’m going to give it a shot.

   SomeonetoKeepMeT

I  teamed up with KC Wells to write Someone To Keep Me. THAT was an amazing experience. While most people enjoyed the story, there were, of course, complaints about the fact that Ben wasn’t a know-it-all Dom and made mistakes (some pretty big ones). KC and I still think we did something really good with it and hold it up as a shining example of our joint efforts. We also got to celebrate in person when KC made her maiden voyage to the United States!

  Mr Average

I wrote Mr. Average for MLR Press.

Pitch 400x600Final

I got published by Harmony Ink with Pitch (which was technically my first story since it was submitted before Mr. Average). And was stunned to get a cover from none other than the amazing Reese Dante!

PF2014

I got to become one of the proofreaders for the Pulp Friction series by Laura Harner, Havan Fellows, Tom Webb, and Lee Brazil – all of whom I’ve become friends with. (And their minds are scary to behold!)

  KLM+Jet+Plane+by+FaceMePLS

I hopped on a plane for the first time and went to GRL – my first ever convention – and met some absolutely amazing people. Piper Vaughn, Rhys Ford, Becky Condit, Max Vos, Tom Webb, Laura Harner (who let me hang out in her room when it got overwhelming), Amy Lane, Anne Tenino, Eden Winters, SJD Peterson, JP Barnaby, Angel Martinez, Silvia Violet (who isn’t violet at all), Amanda Atchley (who shocked the cookies out of me), Cate Ashwood (who cried when I met her, which made me feel bad), Zallora, Andrew Grey, and so so so many others.

The cover for Lost Time, part of the Love Has No Boundaries anthology from Goodreads.

I wrote a free story for Goodreads called Lost Time and the wonderful Sara York kindly made a cover for me!

Nuttin' For Christmas

I wrote Nuttin’ For Christmas which got the perfect cover from Madison Parker.

KC and I got a contract for Damian’s Discipline – book 5 in the Collars and Cuffs world (which will again feature a different type of story).

I got a contract for Wet Paint (sequel to Pitch). It’s Benny and Addy’s story and (I hope) is better than Pitch (or so I’m told).

I also started Pride-Promotions, which has gone great so far. It’s an honor working with so many stellar authors.

I won awards!

Oh, and lest I forget, I gave notice at my job. Almost 28 years and now it’s time we part ways.

And I got to nearly ONE THOUSAND friends on Facebook. I don’t know what the future holds, but thank you for being part of it with me.
