Of Love and Corn Dogs

Of Love and Corn Dogs

Well, the first book in the ‘Of Love and’ series is with the formatter. Should be ready to go up in a week or so. I’m excited, but also nervous about this book. Here is a bit about the book:

With more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes, Darwin Kincade still couldn’t keep death from stealing his lover. A little older and a whole lot wiser, flirting with his twice-a-week waiter is the perfect no-risk substitute for a real relationship. Until the night his routine is upended by the restaurant’s newest employee.

Ricky Donnelly loves people. While being a server isn’t his dream, he’s good at it. When a grumpy man is seated in his station, Ricky sees there’s more to him than he lets on, and when the man relaxes, he’s actually sweet.

As the two men bond over a discussion about corn dogs—something Darwin’s never heard of—he realizes how much he’s missed out on in his life. He vows to open himself to new experiences—including, perhaps, a chance at finding love again.

Not wanting anything to muddy their blooming relationship, Darwin hides part of himself from Ricky. He likes the look in Ricky’s eyes, unclouded by Darwin’s notoriety. Unfortunately, the truth can never stay hidden, and when it comes out, Darwin may lose any hope of holding onto the future they’ve begun to build.

To start us off on the right foot, we’ve decided to talk to the men behind the story.

Ricky, Darwin. Good to see you.

Darwin: Thank you for having us, Parker. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Ricky: *scowl*

Is there a problem, Ricky?

“I didn’t know there would be an interview. I’m not ready for this.”

“Oh, don’t worry. It’s just an informal little thing. No need to get worked up.”

Ricky slumps in his chair. “Fine.”

“Okay, question one: How does it feel to be the new book in a new series?”

Ricky leaps up. “What? What the hell do you mean new series?”

“Oh, I thought you knew. At the end of the book–”

Darwin:” Can we not tell him? He doesn’t know yet, and I don’t want to spoil it for him.

Ricky: “What the hell did you do?”

Darwin smiles. “Nothing at all.”

**Laughs**

“Okay, fine. How about this. What’s it like to have so much money you can…”

Ricky: “Wait! Who has money?”

“Oh, well Darwin is…”

Darwin: “Can we not talk about that? He doesn’t know that, either.”

Interviewer throws away his notecards. “Okay, fine. Why don’t you tell us whatever you want.”

Darwin: “Well… let’s see. Not sure how this is going to sound. For a while now, I’ve been going to Asiago, that’s the restaurant in the book, to see this incredibly sexy waiter named Roy–”

Ricky huffs and drops into the chair. “Here we go again.”

Darwin: “Oh, hush. I told you that nothing would ever come from it. And I found something so much better.”

Interviewer: “Oh, do tell?”

Darwin smiles. “See, Of Love and Corn Dogs tells the story of a man whose life gets turned upside down when he finds out that the waiter he’s lusted after has moved on, but there is a new waiter there–”

Ricky: “That’s me.”

“Yes, it definitely is. Anyway, Ricky teaches me a lesson the first time I go. In fact, I learn more than one thing from him. Like the fact that there is more to life than I ever expected.”

Ricky preens. “And he learns that it doesn’t do any good to be antagonistic to your server.”

Darwin smiles shyly. “Especially one that’s the best thing since sliced bread.”

Darwin leans over and the two rub noses. It’s sweet, but a bit over the top, at least to the interviewer. Or maybe he’s just jealous.

“Anyway,” Darwin continues, sitting back, “Ricky teaches me something, and I find that it’s not enough. I want more. More than I ever thought possible.”

“He’s kind of socially inept,” Ricky says. “You should have seen us when we danced. He didn’t move like the rest of us. He had no rhythm, no idea what he was doing, but in my eyes he was the most elegant person out there.”

Darwin: “We’re a perfect match.”

Interviewer: “Yes, but what about when–”

Darwin: “Sorry, we’re going to have to cut this interview short. Too much of a chance there will be spoilers if we continue.”
