Lost in Loveland by K-lee Klein

Welcome to Loveland, Book 2

Release date – September 26, 2016

Blurb

Loveland, Colorado is a special place, a community of creativity and art, with scenic views and majestic mountains. The city brought Lucky and Jack together, but staying that way will take more than cold-air kisses and sweet valentines.

Jack Canon should be over-the-top happy. He has a job that makes him proud, students who make him laugh, a studio that brings out his creativity, and a man who treats him like he walks on water. But shadows from his past keep coming between him and the joy that should fill his heart. Jack needs to reconcile some bitter loose ends, before he can move forward.

Lucky Roberts is in love—hook, line, and kitchen sink. He wants to shout his feelings to the rooftops and scatter little handmade valentines all over the world. He thinks he’s okay with not being perfect, and knows Jack isn’t perfect either. But when his own past rears its ugly head, Lucky discovers that old habits die hard. Maybe opening his heart to Jack won’t be enough— maybe he just isn’t enough.

Jack and Lucky risk getting caught in limbo between the past and present if they don’t have the strength to share the skeletons in their closets. To move forward together, they have to find the courage to look back…together.

Character Bio:

The Basics:

Welcome everyone. Thank you for letting me share my new release, Parker. Lost in Loveland is the second book in the Welcome to Loveland series and the sequel to Lucky in Loveland. Lost in Loveland is also my second effort with self-publishing and I’m happy to send it out into the webiverse.

I would also like to offer a giveaway of an ebook from my backlist to one commenter. It’s easy—just leave your name, email address, and a comment directed at either Jack or Lucky. I’ll pick a random winner on October 5th. Good luck and I hope you enjoy getting to know my characters from Lost in Loveland.

JACK CANON

What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?

Jack Canon. His family calls him Jackie. Lucky knows he should not go there.

What is your character’s hair color? Eye color?

– His hair is dark brown and past his shoulders. He grew it out after he left California. He likes to put it in a sloppy bun but sometimes he wears it long so Lucky can play with it. He has impossibly long eyelashes and deep brown eyes that almost turn black when he’s angry or turned-on.

Who are your character’s friends and family? Who do they surround themselves with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who do they wish they were closest to?

– Family is a tough issue for Jack. His parents died in a car accident almost a year before the first book opens, and his three sisters have been angry with him ever since. He grew up the only boy in a home of drama-filled girls, and considered his parents to be his best friends. He never made any other real connections growing-up, more the loner type. He misses his sisters in his own way but Lucky is the first person Jack has really wanted to be close to.

Where was your character born? Where have they lived since then? Where do they call home?

– Jack is from Beverly Hills. He grew-up in an affluent environment where he was never completely comfortable. He lived at home until his parents’ death when he uprooted himself and picked a place he thought sounded nice—Loveland, Colorado. Despite still having familial ties in California, he considers Loveland to be his home now.

What makes your character laugh out loud?

– Jack is big on sarcasm and Lucky’s antics make him laugh all the time. Plus, Lucky blushes a lot and that makes Jack giggle on the inside.

When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?

– Jack hasn’t been in love before. He’s had the odd crush but nothing that lasted or was important. Lucky is the first love of his life and he wants it to stay that way.

Fun & In-Depth Questions

What is in your character’s refrigerator right now? On the bedroom floor? In the nightstand? In the garbage can?

– Jack goes out to eat a lot, but he does keep a pitcher of water, some cheese, bread, and (hopefully) fresh vegetables. His condo doubles as his studio so he has sketchpads and other art supplies scattered everywhere. His garbage can is filled with crumpled-up pieces of paper and broken pencils, and he has his Kindle, condoms, lube, chapstick, pieces of charcoal, and a smaller sketchpad in his nightstand.

Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Do they wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are they in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are they wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by grandma?

– Jack his two pairs of dress shoes, a few pairs of sneakers, and a pair of boots he bought when he discovered the snow in Loveland could swallow him up. He owns a few pairs of sports’ socks but for work he usually wears black or navy dress socks then changes into a pair of handmade, crocheted slippers he got at the Loveland market. They’re purple and yellow and keep his feet—that are always cold—warm. Lucky makes fun of them but Jack just teases him about of his weird big toe to shut him up.

It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing? Give details. If they’re eating breakfast, what exactly do they eat? If they’re stretching out in the backyard to sun, what kind of blanket or towel does they lie on?

– Jack usually spends his Saturday mornings sketching or painting, unless Lucky has a hockey game—or he’s spent the night at Lucky’s. If he’s not already with his man, he’ll meet up with Lucky and they’ll just hang out. Jack likes spending leisurely time with his boyfriend even if they just walk around the square, sit in their gazebo, or go to Bettie’s for lunch. He likes granola or toast with blueberry jam for breakfast and lots of coffee. But at Bettie’s, he splurges and orders French toast with berries and whip cream.

Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where will they be going? What do they wear? Who will they be with?

– Jack’s wardrobe changed when he moved to Loveland and met Lucky. He used to dress-up to go out, but now the only time he wears anything other than T-shirts, Henleys, (or even flannel on occasion) and skinny jeans, is when he teaches. He and Lucky spend a lot of time at the local pub (watching hockey with Lucky’s buddies), the ice arena, or Lucky’s cabin in the woods. No dress clothes needed.

Does your character have pets? What kind? What are their names? If they don’t, what kind of pet would they like?

– Jack doesn’t have any pets and growing-up all he had was a few short-lived goldfish. He does love Lucky’s dog, Oreo, though. And Oreo seems to like him better than Lucky sometimes.

LUCKY ROBERTS

The Basics:

What is your character’s name? Does the character have a nickname?

Lucky Roberts. His real name is Larry but he doesn’t like to talk about that.

What is your character’s hair color? Eye color?

– His hair is dark blond with red highlights and his eyes are blue. Jack prefers to call them azurite though.

Who are your character’s friends and family? Who do they surround themselves with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who do they wish they were closest to?

– Lucky’s parents live in the same house where he grew-up in Loveland. He sees them every day and even though they drive him crazy, they have always been his biggest cheering section. Together they have their own little family of Odd Ducks. He also has some close friends from school that he plays hockey and spends nights at the local pub with. Lucky’s a loyal guy and he expects loyalty in return. And of course, the person he wants most to be close to is Jack.

Where was your character born? Where have they lived since then? Where do they call home?

– Lucky was born in Loveland, Colorado. That’s where he still lives, and though he did some travelling when he played semi-pro hockey, it’s where he always wants to be.

What is their biggest fear? Who have they told this to? Who would they never tell this to? Why?

– Lucky confided in his mom that he would never fall in love because of his checkered past. He was scared he’d never find that special someone, but she told him he’d know it when it happened and it would be awesome. He doesn’t keep much to himself, an open book who wears his heart on his sleeve, but the only other person he’s told this to is Jack.

What makes your character laugh out loud?

– Lucky is a very jovial dude. He laughs big and at a lot of things. He also blushes very easily, especially when it comes to Jack Canon.

When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?

– Lucky had a lot of one-night stand hook-ups when he was young, none of which panned out into any romantic illusions. BUT in truth, he’s an old-fashioned guy who just wants to fall in love forever. (hint – he’s pretty sure he’s found that in Jack.)

Fun & In-Depth Questions

What is in your character’s refrigerator right now? On the bedroom floor? In the nightstand? In the garbage can?

– Lucky loves to grill so his freezer is filled with steaks and various other kinds of beef, chicken, and pork. He always has milk, cheese, and baked treats from his mom. His bedroom floor is littered with dog toys, a dog bed (that Oreo barely uses), and an extra pair of Jack’s silly purple and yellow slippers. His nightstand is similar to Jack’s—condoms, lube—but he also has some old Garfield and Archie comics shoved in there. Chewed-up socks and hockey tape are usually in his garbage can.

Look at your character’s feet. Describe what you see there. Do they wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are they in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are they wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by grandma?

– Sports’ socks, white or black, are Lucky’s standard and usually they have a hole in the big toe. He doesn’t own a pair of dress shoes, but has an abundance of boots—hiking boots, snow boots, motorcycle boots—skates, and sneakers for working out. At home, he’s generally barefoot because he doesn’t have delicate, chilly feet like Jack. He would rather die than wear a pair of crocheted slippers.

It’s Saturday at noon. What is your character doing? Give details. If they’re eating breakfast, what exactly do they eat? If they’re stretching out in the backyard to sun, what kind of blanket or towel does they lie on?

– Saturday mornings are for usually for hockey—practices, games, or coaching—but sometimes Lucky is lucky enough to have Jack sleep over Friday night. Lucky likes to make him a breakfast of bacon, eggs, and fresh orange juice. Or they go to the diner where he orders roughly the same thing as he’d make except Bettie has the best hashbrowns in the world. In the afternoon, they might go for lunch at Bettie’s or hang around town. He knows Jack likes the local market so he always offers to go there with him.

Your character is getting ready for a night out. Where will they be going? What do they wear? Who will they be with?

-Lucky doesn’t have much variation in his wardrobe, and he has no intention of changing that fact. He’s always just worn blue jeans (not those skinny ones), old band T-shirts, long-sleeve flannels, and his favorite pair of worn boots. He’s happy that Jack likes going to the pub to hang out with Lucky’s friends and watch the game of the night. But sometimes he picks up Jack in town and just takes him back to his cabin. They walk along the river, even at night, looking at the moon and stars and making out a little.

Does your character have pets? What kind? What are their names? If they don’t, what kind of pet would they like?

– Oreo is Lucky’s baby—a big Bernese Mountain Dog baby. He’s three-years-old, energetic, and spoiled rotten. Oreo is Lucky’s parents’ token grand-doggy and they babysit him a lot so he doesn’t have to stay alone at Lucky’s place out of town. Sometimes Oreo seems to like Jack better and Lucky is perfectly fine with that.

Bio

K-lee Klein loves guys with long hair and tattoos, and you’ll often find her front and center at her favorite rock concerts. She has bounced around Western Canada all her life, but will always consider the solitude and beauty of the British Columbian mountains home. Her life is blessed as the proud mother of three now-grown but still spoiled kids, the servant of two bossy felines, and the wife of a truly patient husband.

Her writing muse is terribly temperamental, so to keep him close by and in check, she had him inked on her left calf. The gorgeous, long-haired, mostly naked, kneeling angel that resulted is truly a work of art, although he’s still a handful and hopelessly uncontrollable. She writes on his schedule and inspiration.

K-lee tends to fall easily into obsessions. When something grabs her attention, she jumps into it headfirst with complete abandon. Actors, musicians, superheroes, fictional characters, and brainwashed assassins all hold spots on her cannot-get-enough list. She once followed Thirty Seconds to Mars around the United States and Canada and saw them perform fourteen times that year. Obsession sometimes leads to ideas for her kneeling angel to turn into stories.

Although an introvert in person, she’s extroverted online and has met many wonderful friends there, sometimes with the added fun of meeting them in person at gay romance conferences. She’s grateful for all the people in her life who accept her as she is and support her through her ups and downs as mom, wife, and joyfully obsessed writer.
